This session focuses on the application of specific financial forensic tools and techniques that can be applied to divorce engagements.  The
concepts are based on the foundational discipline of forensic accounting, which includes the investigation of people in conjunction with the money. 
This session will guide participants from the broad concepts to the selection and use of specific techniques that will distinguish them from their
peers.  Case examples, charts and lecture discussion will introduce the participants to diverse data analysis techniques frequently deployed in
forensic accounting assignments.

  • Overview – “People and the Money” concept as applied to divorce engagements

  • Creating a methodology
  • Covert methods to investigate the people
  • Techniques used to develop the investigation, such as: 1) Timeline/Event analysis. 2) Genogram, and 3) Entity chart

  • Specific forensic tools and techniques to be implemented
  • Proof of cash
  • Key account reconciliations
  • Financial statement analysis
  • Use of computer-assisted forensic tools and techniques, such as:
  • o   Link analysis
    o   Gap detection
    o   Benford’s Law
    o   Rounded numbers

  • Formal indirect methods to determine unreported income

  • Report presentation – Words, Pictures and Numbers

  • The participant will be provided with a financial forensic framework applicable to divorce engagements
  • The participant will learn the basic background investigation techniques to assist in locating the people associated with the money
  • The participant will learn immediately deployable techniques designed to enhance the investigative and business valuation process
